Artwork

These are the most recent series created by Johnatan Machado.

The serie called "Traditional Weavings" . I have been able to apply my technique on materials I have never used, such as the Sedu, a traditional Bedouin fabric. Hence this series comes alive. It talks to us about a past that is still alive among us, and of traditions that have not been lost. The technique I apply has transformed tradition into contemporary art. I am not transgressing, I am assimilating and rearranging my surroundings as it is presented to me, integrating new patterns. . I am gifting the past a present of transformation.

In the series called "Weaved canvases" the pieces are the result of mixing two canvases that the artist created separately, these are then cut and weaved together, resulting in a single painting. The technique combines painting and collage.

The series called "35mm" is the result of experimenting with unconventional materials. All the pieces are made with 35mm film. Here the artist talks about the death of the analogue era and the overwhelming arrival of the digital era. A few years ago film was sacred, now we throw it out as garbage.

The last serie is called "Photocollage" and it combines his photographic technique with collage, creating figurative kaleidoscopes.
